Use Gentle Sleep and Wake with your smart lights Google Nest Help

Introduced at CES 2019, Philips Hue’s new Gentle Wake Up feature allows the Google Assistant to slowly brighten your lights 30 minutes before your alarm is set to go off. This effect simulates a sunrise which should bring you out of REM sleep gently and over time instead of jarringly at the sound of your alarm. I have been using Sleep cycle + Philips hue for the bulbs in my bedroom to work as wake up lights. With Google Home, I use the "good morning" routine, but I need activate it. If you have got a new Google home or the mini and it is set up, you can now start adding your home devices such as your Hue bulbs and lights. As well as the announcement for new lights Hue is also adding in new functions that work with Google Assistant.

The new Philips Hue and Google Assistant sleep and wake up feature is a new functionality which offers you the option to activate sleep and wake up light settings with a simple voice command. Smart lights still tend to offer a rude awakening if you tie them to your alarm, but Google wants to fix that. It's delivering a promised Gentle Sleep & Wake feature for Home speakers that gradually dims or brightens your Philips Hue lights to provide a more natural rest. Say the right command (such as "turn on Gentle Wake Up," "wake up my lights" or "sleep my lights") and the lights will change over the course of half an hour. You can set specific times if you intend to use it as part of your daily routine. This feature is available for all smart lights, switches and plugs that are set up under the device type 'Light' in the Google Home app.

Features

Philips first announced this integration at CES earlier this year, with a planned rollout in March. Looks like that took a little while longer, as Google and Philips gently brought this feature to life. Your light will now appear in the Home app and can be controlled with Google Assistant. Tap the back arrow icon to return to the main screen of the Google Home app. All your Philips Hue lights and Rooms will now be listed. How you connect Hue lights to Google Assistant depends on whether you want to connect with a Hue Bridge or Bluetooth.

You will be able to set Hue lights to sync with your morning alarm so your lights gradually light up as they would in sunrise mode. If you have set up Hue and added it to Google home then great, but what if you then add a new bulb in the future and you want to add this to Google Home. The Philips Hue and Google Assistant sleep and wake up feature works with just a simple voice command to your Google Assistant. While the price of white Hue bulbs has come down in recent years, colored hue lights remain rather pricey, with single bulbs going for around $40.

Google Assistant can now ‘gently’ wake you up with Philips Hue lights

You can scroll to find it or type “Philips Hue” in the search bar at the top of the screen. No matter what time you need to wake up, you can schedule the sun to rise at your convenience. Every day has the potential to be great — and it all starts with waking up.

For now, it seems like the Gentle Sleep & Wake feature only works with Hue smart lights, so if you use another brand of bulbs, you’re out of luck. Gentle Sleep & Wake is available starting today in English in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and India on Google Home devices. Users will be able to set sleep by saying “Hey Google, sleep the lights at 10pm”, changing the lights to a warm hue that gradually fade over thirty minutes.

It will let you get the kind of luxury experience that people who can afford homes and apartments with natural light get on a daily basis but through cold, artificial Wi-Fi lightbulbs instead. Not only does this mean that it’s incredibly easy to set your Philips Hue wake up settings but it also removes the need to use your phone just before bed to set an alarm, which can be disruptive to falling asleep. The Philips Hue sleep and wake up feature in partnership with Google Assistant, differs from the previous edition as it now allows you to control the feature using just your voice. It also works in conjunction with your Google Assistant alarm, gradually waking you up and bringing your lights up to full brightness just as your alarm goes off.

Tried short taps, long presses, hard presses, soft presses, nothing. No response at all, just a big animated hand showing how simple it is to get working by only doing what I’ve done a dozen times. After a few minutes it says “Do you want to try again? This page is the only troubleshooting I can find on Google. These instructions are out of date on March 15, 2018.

When instructed, the Google Assistant will turn up the lights from zero to full brightness over a 30-minute period, simulating a sunrise intended to wake you up just before your audible alarm goes off. After your sunrise, customize your Wake up automation to extend through your morning routine to keep that peaceful feeling all throughout your day. Google introduced a very similar feature with the release of the Pixel 3 and Pixel Stand. When the phone is docked, users can choose to use a Sunrise Alarm. As the name suggests, the Pixel’s display will gently brighten to simulate a sunrise. “Hey Google, turn on Gentle Wake up” to have your daily morning alarms pair with gradual brightening.

While you can connect Philips Hue to Google Home with Bluetooth, the Hue Bridge unlocks even more features. Featuring a slender design and brilliant blend of colorful light, these floor or table lamps are both a statement piece and a subtle accent for your bedroom. 3 - Google home routine is activated without the need to say "Ok Google, good morning". I have also always been experiencing the instability of connection to Google home.
